Tomates

Usine C
January 16 @ 8:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
Performances from January 16 - 18
Usine C, 1345, Avenue Lalonde
Montreal, QC H2L 5A9 Canada

With this new creation, we find the anarchic and joyful signature of orchestre d’hommes-orchestres (L’ODHO). Strewn across the stage are screens of all sizes, a hodgepodge of objects, mechanisms and ping-pong balls. Hanging over the rubble is a harpsichord. Within this jumble, seven revolutionaries retreat from the world, bringing with them texts from the Comité invisible and a traditional Acadian tale. These narratives interweave, while a timely political commentary emerges, seasoned with a little zaniness, courtesy of L’ODHO. Tomates is a call to arms for rebellion, in form and in content.

Presented by Usine C from January 16th to 18th.

The Great Tamer

Usine C
January 24 @ 8:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
Performances from January 24 - 27
Usine C, 1345, Avenue Lalonde
Montreal, QC H2L 5A9 Canada

The stage is on an incline, covered with removable charcoal grey plates, evoking the substrata of a cemetery or a geological site. Trap doors are opened at will; the earth shifts and undulates. The bodies of the performers disappear into the bowels of the earth. With this black and white fable, there is an orgy of images. The Greek artist, Dimitris Papaioannou, stages the tension between life and our demise. Without beginning or end, this dreamlike creation evokes ancient and modern myths, conjuring up masterpieces of visual art in an ode to the most powerful of creators: death. The chaos of the world has never been so poetic.

Presented by Usine C from January 24th to 27th.

Lara Kramer
February 5 @ 7:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
Performances on February 5 and 7
Usine C, 1345, Avenue Lalonde
Montreal, QC H2L 5A9 Canada

Associating striking images to a universe of desolation, Lara Kramer depicts, without any sugarcoating, the often-ignored tragic reality of the indigenous people. On an empty stage, two men, Peter James and Jassem Hindi, wage war on boredom. A raw and visceral performance, accompanied by audio recordings collected by Lara Kramer on her grandma’s reserve in Ontario, Windigo confronts solitude and distress, thereby offering a breach in the infernal cycle of acculturation.

Presented by Usine C on February 5th and 7th.

Usine C
February 6 @ 8:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
Performances from February 6-9
Usine C, 1345, Avenue Lalonde
Montreal, QC H2L 5A9 Canada

Inspired by bondage motifs in S&M subculture, Luke George et Daniel Kok have selected rope as their object of choice to symbolize relationship dynamics between people, especially between dancers and audience members. The latter can even be initiated into this club, if they so desire. Bound by multi-colour ropes, the dancers float in suspension under harsh lighting. With Bunny, these two artists offer a delicate and original exploration of the subtle rules of domination.

A Canadian Premiere presented by Usine C from February 6-9.

BIS + Ode to the Attempt

Usine C
February 20 @ 8:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
Performances from February 20-22
Usine C, 1345, Avenue Lalonde
Montreal, QC H2L 5A9 Canada

"BIS" is created by and for the dancer Truus Bronkhorst, a dance celebrity in the Netherlands in the 1980s and 1990s. Carrying on without ever giving up is the theme of this solo piece, distilling pain, fear and loss, in order to extract the elixir of the performance.

In "Ode to the Attempt", the charismatic Jan Martens offers a self-portrait under the form of a collage. The choreographer invites us into his creative process, changing each night his canvas and giving himself new challenges: to be funny and provocative, to contact a friend, to find a cheesy ending to the piece.

A double program presented by Usine C from February 20-22.

Trilogy Supernova

Usine C
March 21 @ 7:00 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)
Performances from March 21 - 23
Usine C, 1345, Avenue Lalonde
Montreal, QC H2L 5A9 Canada

In this three-part work, Mark Lawes and Raphaële Thiriet become sociological detectives searching for a multi-disciplinary stage language that delves into our society’s schizophrenic consciousness. At the outset, preoccupied by the growing use of technologies and its impact on our behaviour and our relationships, they merge the worlds of dance, philosophy, pop-rock music, ready-made installation and video in a vast construction site of possible futures. The trilogy follows the cycle of the life of a star and a possible reconciliation with our pre-apocalyptic world.

A North American Premiere Presented by Usine C from March 21 to 23.

|Recurring Event (See all)
Performances from April 10 - 11
Usine C, 1345, Avenue Lalonde
Montreal, QC H2L 5A9 Canada

Between rituals of emancipation and alpine folklore, this work by Simon Mayer transports us to a village somewhere in Tyrol. Progressively, he draws us into a Schuhplattler with his posse, scratching the surface of his peasant roots, revealing the meaning of heritage within the framework of liberation. With humour and audacity, the choreographer takes a fresh look at tradition and what it says about his country, giving us an opportunity to discover this Austrian prodigy.
