Black and Blue Matters

Black Theatre Workshop
October 21 @ 7:30 pm
Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal, 7250 Rue Clark, #103
Montreal, QC H2R 2Y3 Canada

Black and Blue Matters tells the story of white presenting police officer David Harrison, a few years after he has been found innocent of shooting and killing Sammir Frederique, a gifted black youth and rising star DJ in the “Real City” music scene. With audience members serving as jury who decide the fate of the accused, and a number of twists in the story including alternate endings, Omari Newton's new work is a satirical, interactive, Hip Hop theatre piece, that deconstructs bias in legal systems, notions of justice, and the roles race, gender, and class play in the decisions made by state agents.

A development production presented by Black Theatre Workshop in association with Playwrights' Workshop Montreal.
