The McGill Department of English In collaboration with
Early Modern Conversions Project presents

Shakespeare’s Sonnets: Transforming the Voices of Montréal

Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Guy Sprung
Mask Master Brian Smith

With: Amir Sám Nakhjavani, Ellen David, Charles Bender, Carmen Grant, Mariah Inger, Shawn Campbell and Holly Gauthier-Frankel, Manouchka Elinor

Under the trance of the mask, a handful of Montréal’s best actors create and explore contemporary characters and situations that render obscure Elizabethan language and word-play understandable to a 21st century audience. The poems take on a power of immediacy and a language as current as the streets and metros of Montréal today.
