Players’ Theatre presents

Written by Eugène Ionesco
Directed by Guy Ettlin

The everyday routines of the citizens of a small French town get permanently disrupted when a Rhinoceros runs by the cafe on a Sunday morning.

Rhinoceros follows the story of Berenger, a person who struggles to hold on to their identity while friends and colleagues gradually transform to join an unhinged herd of animals.

The play is by many considered to be a classic of the theatre of the absurd. As an absurdist comedy it is today as relevant as ever in its exploration of culture and conformity. This production uniquely fits the play into the blackbox setting of Players’ Theater, with a small cast of players presenting a fast-paced, highly comedic, yet profound and impactful interpretation of Ionesco’s work.
