Three choreographers, each former or current dancers with Les Grands Ballets, find inspiration in the cycle of the moon and tides to create a unique evening that translates man’s humility before the grandeur of the natural world.
Adoptive Montrealer Andrew Skeels, winner of a 2018 Grand Prix de la Critique in Paris, presents a reflection on humanity, Vessel, a contemplation on grace and compassion, while Les Grands Ballets principal dancer Vanesa G.R. Montoya offers a rich and dense work whose central theme is heritage, spirituality and the connection among human beings: “When we work together, we accomplish great things.” Vancouver-based artist Lesley Telford works with a thought-provoking approach, refined by her career with the Nederland Dans Theater, as she explores using the moon as a metaphor for the goals that appear to be beyond our reach.
Luna provides a consideration of the forces that surround us and the energy that emanates from them, a triptych of visions with common ground in hope and resilience, a clear-eyed but optimistic look at what’s to come.
Presented by Les Grands Ballets from April 21 – 25, 2021
