On February 6th, the Quebec Drama Federation presents an online tax workshop for theatre practitioners.
The year 2020 may have been full of surprises, but your taxes shouldn’t be. Feel confident that you are claiming the deductions and special credits you are entitled in order to minimize the amount of tax you pay.
This workshop focuses on what artists need to know to prepare for the 2020 income tax filing season especially if they have received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) or the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB).
The workshop facilitator, a tax accountant who specializes in working with artists, will speak to the context of financial relief in the arts sector, and where that has left theatre artists filing 2020 taxes. They will also demystify the specific forms and taxation requirements for artists on a “normal” year and the new criteria and prep required for these forms.
- The income tax system in a nutshell
- Understanding Covid-19 Relief benefits
- Types of income
- Employee vs. self-employed
- Business activity and expenses

In addition, participants will have access to a post workshop 15-min, one-on-one Q&A session with an accountant.
