#RiseMTL is Montreal Theatre Hub’s new journalistic series featuring local artists and companies who are spearheading creative community initiatives for artistic and social activity in response to COVID-19.
Do you like singing, sketch comedy, daring circus performers, theatrics or poetry? If you answered yes to any one of these, then The Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society’s Gravy on the Side Variety Hour has something for you.
This online edition of The Gravy on the Side Variety Hour is themed “Quaranfriends Doing Qurantrends” and will be hosted by Montreal Theatre veterans, Anisa Cameron (Artistic Director of The CSLDS), Ryan Kligman (Assistant Director on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Cabaret) and Jeanne Motulsky (Hairspray, The Producers, Joseph and Cabaret).
This may be the inaugural edition of this variety hour online, but it has a long running tradition with the CSLDS. Artistic Director Anisa Cameron says: “Gravy on the Side Variety Hour started 7 years ago as a seasonal variety show the CSLDS would put on to get people in the community together for a fun night of sharing their talent in a way that was more casual than in a fully realized production. We’ve done 1 or 2 a year since then. This upcoming Gravy on the Side Variety Hour marks our first one in over a year and a half”.
“In the same way our ‘in-real-life’ show encourages people to get creative and share their unique skills with our audience, we know the online version also encourages people to engage and interact in a time of isolation,” she explains.
A jam packed line up is anticipated for Tuesday night. “It’s so busy that the show will actually be an hour and half as opposed to the titular, ‘Variety Hour’,” shares Cameron. “We received videos from a wide and diverse array of performers – children to senior citizens, professional performers and novices alike, all in the name of participating in something that connects them to our community and keeps them actively engaged.”
The Gravy on the Side Variety Hour will be presented on Facebook Live on Tuesday, April 14th at 7 pm from The Côte Saint Luc Dramatic Society page.
