#RiseMTL is Montreal Theatre Hub’s new journalistic series featuring local artists and companies who are spearheading creative community initiatives for artistic and social activity in response to COVID-19.
Artist of the screen and stage who has most notably established herself in the Montreal theatre scene as the founder of In The Wings Promotions, Noelle Hannibal is never one to fall short on ideas – or to proactively, resourcefully, and concretely make them happen.
From staging musical productions to providing talent booking services to hosting local masterclasses with Broadway’s biggest names as it now approaches its 10-year anniversary, In The Wings has been widely credited as a valuable community contributor. Always with a project in the pipeline, Hannibal’s newest creative initiative finds its roots precisely in human connection at it time when it is most called for.
“Being isolated is never a great thing. Especially when you are used to being around people,” she explains. “After returning from New York City last week, on the heels of Broadway shutting down, the border being closed, etc. I decided to self-quarantine, as a precaution. On day 6, after a rehearsal on zoom for an upcoming show (which will now be a live stream) I spontaneously decided to do a FB Live (unrehearsed) concert. It wasn’t my best, but was it ever fun. More important, it got me thinking. What other ways could I connect with my friends, colleagues and fans? The idea for a Virtual Coffee Date popped into my head and within minutes, I had sent out a blast on Facebook and created a group.”
“All are welcome. It’s a place to chat, tell stories and even sing a song, should anyone feel so inclined. I’m looking forward to it! Join me!”
Virtual Coffee Date will be hosted on Zoom every week, with its next session scheduled for Thursday, March 26 at 5:30PM EDT.
You can find the Zoom link on the group Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/137365837714356/.
