Michel Marc Bouchard’s play, Tom à la ferme, received a resounding success throughout the world, in addition to being adapted on screen by Xavier Dolan. Usine C is happy to bring back to Montreal its Brazilian adaptation, Tom na Fazenda, which is considered by the author himself to be the most powerful one. Awarded best theater performance in 2019 by the São Paulo Art Critics Association and a great success of the FTA in 2018, Rodrigo Portella’s direction powerfully portrays social issues that are still very present in Brazil. A spectacular direction and a shattering story. Showcased at Usine C from March 3 to 12.

After the death of his lover, Tom journeys deep into the backcountry to attend his funeral. He discovers a mother who knew nothing of his son’s love life and a brother who chose to bury the truth at all costs.

This remake of Tom à la ferme, a classic from Quebec’s contemporary theater scene, suggests a reading rooted in physicality and sensuality. In the Brazilian’s context, where the number of homophobic murders is peaking, the play features a terrible resonance.

Covered in mud, the stage becomes a battlefield for male bodies dealing with mourning, fears and passions that cannot be tamed. A shattering piece that can’t be missed.
