Each year, the Quebec Drama Federation hosts open-call General Auditions, Student Auditions, and a a Designer Showcase where actors and designers audition and present for:
- Artistic Directors of PACT theatre companies
- Artistic Directors of Independent theatre companies
- Independent Directors
- Montreal-based Talent Agents and Casting Directors.
The auditions are a great first foray into or an introduction to the community for many new and emerging theatre practitioners.
Although General Auditions are an open call to both union and non-union actors and designers, as per Equity requirements, Equity members are given first priority and non-members will be issued the remaining slots. Non-QDF members are welcome to participate in the annual General Auditions.
Designers are invited to participate in the designer showcase, where designers present samples of their work or production/design portfolios.
Acting students in their final year of theatre program training at John Abbott College, Dawson College, Bishops University, Concordia University, or National Theatre School are also invited to participate in the annual student auditions.
The participating casting professionals are committed to diverse and inclusive casting that engages qualified performers, without regard to age, disability, ethno-cultural identity, gender, or any other basis prohibited by law. Priority is given to artists who self-identify as BIPOC, artists living with disabilities and/or artists from Equity-seeking groups, as well as those auditioning for the first time at the annual general auditions.
This year’s General and Student Auditions and Designer Showcase will be held on December 11, 12 and 13, 2019.
