Call for Submissions: Montréal Complètement Cirque seeks Alternative Circus acts for 2020 tour

In July 2020, creators and presenters of the circus arts from around the world will be mobilized in Montréal for Montréal Complètement Cirque. La TOHU, project manager of the Festival, will present the 11th edition of this unmissable event!.

The partnership between la TOHU and La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines seeks applications from alternative circus companies for their programming initiative Alternative Circus. With the goal of diversifying their programming while representing and staying attuned to the staged arts milieu, the TOHU and La Chapelle will, fora second year, co-present a bold program. This will be an opportunity for the general public, presenters, and programmers attending the Marché International du Cirque Contemporain (MICC) to discover a different kind of circus and to expand their understanding of circus arts.


  • The project should be grounded in the interdisciplinary approach of alternative circus;
  • The project must include a majority of Canadian artists or artists living in Canada.
  • The project must be ready to tour in Fall 2020 
  • The show’s technical specifications have to comply with La Chapelle’s equipment and the parameters of what can be hung from its ceiling. You can find the tech spec under “Technical Sheet” here : 
  • The duration of the performance must be between 30 and 60 minutes. 


  • Single circus acts (or “numbers”) 
  • Projects not ready to tour in Fall 2020 


  • A fixed artist fee per company will be paid, 
  • Two artistic accreditations for the festival per company will be provided; 
  • La TOHU and La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines will be responsible for technical costs (setup and dismantling)

Applications will be reviewed by a jury of peers. Responses will be sent by no later than mid-december.
