Teesri Duniya Theatre‘s Fireworks Playwrights Program is an intensive, structured, and guided learning/creating workshop experience that aims to assist emerging, socially engaged writers, particularly artists of colour and indigenous peoples, to develop their written voice and professional profile. Its goal is not only to increase the pool of socially engaged work, but also to assist the artist in gaining a better understanding of, and connection to, the arts ecology in which they work. A program to develop new plays using culturally sensitive dramaturgy that explores new forms of aesthetics.
Submissions are encouraged and welcomed from emerging or established playwrights of absolutely all cultural, social and sexual identities.
Please submit a play script or synopsis that is in an early stage of inception of no more than 500 words:
1. Emphasis will be on all-inclusive diversity, indigenous and socially relevant plays/proposals.
2. Play/proposals examining social and cultural questions, engaging with critical discourse are preferred.
3. Plays/proposals must be in their initial stages, and cannot have been developed or workshop’d though any other established program/process (ex. PWM or The Unit)
Playwrights who successfully complete the first phase of development will have their plays go through dramaturgical development in preparation for delivery of public readings. There is also the possibility of one or two plays being selected for a full workshop production.
Please address proposals electronically to Kiki Dranias, Community Outreach Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org
