2019 METAs Nominees to be announced live from Monument-National Sep. 26; Call for honorary award nominations

Nomination event to precede 7th Annual Montreal English Theatre Awards Ceremony this October

MONTREAL, September 20th. The METAs – Montreal English Theatre Awards for the 2018-2019 season are just around the corner and the METAs Committee cordially invites the community to its Nominees Announcement this September in anticipation of the awards ceremony this October.

This year’s METAs categories and nominees will be announced live from the Monument-National Café (1182 St Laurent Blvd) at 3:30 PM, on Thursday, September 26th, 2019. Doors open at 3:00 PM. The event is free and open to the general public. The complete list of Nominees will be published on the official METAs website and on Montreal Theatre Hub following the announcement.

Call for Honorary Award Nominations

The METAs Committee (METAC) is now asking for companies and individuals to submit nominees for two Honorary Awards: the Unsung Hero of the Theatre (UHOT) Award and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Award. The recipients will also be announced during the 7th Annual METAs Ceremony.

The UHOT Award was established in 2014 to celebrate the members of our community who too rarely get the public recognition they deserve. Think of stage managers, carpenters, set painters, administrators, and the myriad of talented craftspeople that bring a production to life.

The EDI Award, presented in partnership with the Conseil des arts de Montréal, was established in 2015 to recognize and encourage practices of access and inclusion, and to celebrate those who embrace the range of cultures, identities and abilities that make up and enrich our city.

For more information about the Honorary Awards, please visit: www.metas.ca/awards/honorary-awards. All submissions must be sent to chair@metas.ca by October 14th, 2019.

About the METAs

Created in 2012 with support from the Quebec Drama Federation, the Montreal English Theatre Awards — METAs — are a set of peer-juried awards established to: recognize and celebrate outstanding artistic work in Montreal’s English Theatre; promote professional and emerging English theatre artists and companies in Montreal, and heighten their visibility, both regionally and beyond; and to elevate the level of critical discourse about theatre in Montreal, amongst artists and with the community at large.
