Call for Submissions to MAI’s 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 artistic seasons

Deadline: September 30th, 2019

The MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) supports emerging artists, older artists (55 and older), and those who are seeking to establish themselves in the city’s artistic community. Proposals from independent artists and collectives are welcome, as well as those from artistic companies and organizations, based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, Quebec, elsewhere in Canada or abroad. Preference is given to original creations that have not previously been shown in Montreal.

The MAI welcomes artistic approaches that are hybrid, rigorous and relevant in the intercultural context. In particular, we welcome proposals from artists who are creating from conditions of marginality (in particular, sex, race, class, ability, sexual orientation, religion, age, language, and other marks of identity, apparent or not). Proposals from these artists will take precedence.

Please note that all artists will be notified by email, but due to the high volume of proposals received, response time may vary.

Visual Arts

Artists in the fields of visual and media arts are invited to submit their projects on an ongoing basis. Artists, collectives, independent curators, as well as organizations may submit a project for an individual or a group exhibition. Selected artists may benefit from extended setup periods in the gallery and technical residencies. Artists are offered the opportunity to participate in auxiliary activities such as workshops, conferences and artist talks. The MAI accepts projects from local, national or international artists. We offer technical, promotional and administrative support and a guaranteed fee as per CARFAC guidelines.

Performing Arts

Multidisciplinary and performing arts professionals are invited to submit their creation projects on an ongoing basis. Artists and organizations may submit projects in dance, theatre (French or English), music, multidisciplinary arts, and performance art. Programmed artists may benefit from extended set-up periods in the theatre, creation and technical residencies. The MAI offers technical, promotional and administrative support as well as a guaranteed fee for the producer. The MAI accepts projects from local, national or international artists.
