MONTREAL, June 17, 2019 – Centaur Theatre Company proudly announced its Best of the Fringe award winner at June 16th’s Frankie Awards, the culminating event of the 2019 Montreal St-Ambroise Fringe Festival.
Off-beat puppetry stole the spotlight this year with Multiple Organism, Vancouver’s wild and risky award-winning theatre company, Mind of a Snail, taking first prize. The runner up was the irreverent object puppet production, The Carrot: Sex, Shit, Death (Montreal’s Carrot Company), and honorable mention went to Trina Davies’ Trophy Hunt, directed by Paul Van Dyck (Rabbit in a Hat Productions). As Best of the Fringe winner, Multiple Organism receives a coveted place in Centaur Theatre’s 2020 Wildside Festival line-up running January 7 to 18th, 2020.

Rose Plotek, Wildside co-curator with Eda Holmes, Centaur’s Artistic and Executive Director, said, “Multiple Organism is a unique and magical shadow puppetry show that takes audiences on a surreal, gender bending journey. It a clear to us that Mind of a Snail Puppet Company has a unique theatrical voice, filled with visual and acoustic wonder, deserving of the opportunity to reach a wider audience.”
Centaur Theatre is still accepting submissions for “the hottest 2 weeks of winter”, its annual winter independent theatre festival. The deadline to submit to Wildside is September 15th, 2019. To apply, click HERE.
