Job Postings for Repercussion Theatre’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park Summer Tour

Repercussion Theatre is seeking applicants for its 2019 Shakespeare-in-the-Park tour for the following positions: Concessions Coordinator, Head of Lights, Head of Sound, and Crew. See below for the specific descriptions and how to apply.

Important note: all applicants must be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident, and must be under 30 years old (These positions are offered through the Canada Summer Jobs funding program.)


1- Concessions Coordinator

This position is for someone who is responsible, likes working with the public, enjoys keeping track of numbers, and will be a positive member of our team! Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating the purchase of concession inventory including food items and merchandise
  • Driving the cargo van to each park to setup for each show
  • Setting up and striking the concessions tent at each park and loading and unloading concessions and merchandise
  • Running the concessions tent (which includes dealing with the public and being responsible for all monetary transactions that come through the concessions tent)
  • Working with the Volunteer Coordinator and volunteers in the concessions tent during the shows
  • Keeping track of concession inventory and sales, and preparing a final report at the end of the tour

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual
  • Experience handling money and adding numbers
  • Experience working with the public
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be organized, trustworthy and detail oriented
  • Must have a positive attitude, enjoy the outdoors and like people
  • Driver’s license required

Employment Period: 9 weeks full time from approximately June 10 to August 11 2019 ($520/week) – exact dates will be discussed in the interview.

2 – Head of Sound (Production Team)

This position is for someone who has studied theatre production and is specifically interested in sound. Under the supervision of the Technical Director and Production Manager, the Head of Sound will:

  • During rehearsals: assist in the inventory maintenance and technical tour planning. Research suitable sound equipment required for the production including: speakers, soundboard, outboard gear, microphones cables, etc.
  • During the tour: unload equipment from the trucks, install and maintain the sound equipment for each show according to the requirements of each park venue. Assist all other departments as required.
  • Act as Sound Board Operator, executing cues and monitoring microphones and levels during rehearsal and performances.
  • Assist in the strike of all technical equipment into the trucks and vehicles after each performance.
  • Assist in returns at the end of the run (cleaning and dismantling of equipment to storage).

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in sound and knowledge of QLab
  • Experience setting up, repairing and operating wireless microphones.
  • A positive attitude and ability to multitask, adapt, take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive approach to problem-solving
  • The ability to work long hours in the outdoors (sun, rain, heat etc).
  • A willingness to work at heights and lift loads of over 60 pounds
  • A valid driver’s license (experience driving a 20’+ truck is an asset.)
  • A professional attitude and strong desire to do great work

Salary: Approximately $5,400 (for 10 weeks)

Employment Period: Approximately June 6 to August 14. Exact dates TBC.

3 – Head of Lights (Production Team)

This position is for someone who has studied theatre production and is specifically interested in lighting. Under the supervision of the Technical Director and Production Manager, the Head of Lights will:

  • During rehearsals: assist in the inventory maintenance and technical tour planning. Research suitable LX equipment required for the production including: lighting board and instruments, stands, cables and generators.
  • During the tour: unload equipment from the trucks, consult with city electricians to ensure proper electrical hook-ups (as needed), install and maintain the lighting equipment for each show according to the requirements of each park venue.
  • Act as Lighting Board Operator for the show
  • Assist other departments as required.
  • Assist in the strike of the technical equipment into the trucks and vehicles after each performance.
  • Assist in returns at the end of the run (cleaning and dismantling of equipment to storage).

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of lighting control systems and equipment, and experience setting up and running lights
    • A thorough working knowledge of electricity and common electrical practices
    • A positive attitude and ability to multitask, adapt, take initiative, and work both independently and as part of a team.
    • The ability to work long hours in the outdoors (sun, rain, heat etc.)
  • A willingness to work at heights and lift loads of over 60 pounds
    • A valid driver’s license (experience driving a 20’+ Truck would be an asset)
    • A professional attitude and strong desire to do great work

4 – Crew (Production Team)

This position is for someone who has a good general knowledge of theatre, and is particularly interested in theatre production. Under the supervision of the Technical Director and Production Manager, the members of the crew will:

  • During rehearsals: assist in the construction of the set/props; participate in inventory maintenance as determined by the TD; practice the overall set-up and tear-down of the stage/set and technical equipment, in order to prepare for the tour. Assist all departments as required.
  • During the performance run: install and maintain the stage and technical equipment for the shows according to the requirements of each park venue.
  • Participate as running crew during the show as required.
  • Assist in the strike of the technical equipment into the trucks and vehicles after each performance.
  • Assist in returns at the end of the run (cleaning and dismantling of equipment to storage).

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in various aspects of technical theatre.
  • A positive attitude and ability to multitask, take initiative, and work independently.
  • Good communication skills, and willingness to be part of a team
  • The ability to work long hours in the outdoors (sun, rain, heat etc).
  • The capacity to adapt to an ever-changing environment and a desire to learn
  • A willingness to lift heavy things
    • Basic knowledge of theatrical procedures, tools and products
    • The ability to read and follow scenic plans.
    • A valid driver’s license (experience driving a 20’+ Truck would be an asset)
    • Soldering and carpentry skills are strongly recommended.

Salary: Approximately $5,000 (for 9.5 weeks)
