Tableau D’Hôte Theatre presents the bilingual Montréal premiere of Marc Prescott’s “Encore”

May 9th to May 19th at MainLine Theatre

Montréal, April 17th 2019 – Tableau D’Hôte Theatre will close its 2018-2019 theatrical season with a bilingual production of Encore by Marc PrescottAfter their wildly successful run of Blackout: The Concordia Computer Riots this past winter at the D.B. Clarke Theatre of Concordia University, the company is excited to present another production exploring concepts of memory and remembering, but this time in a much more intimate setting. The production will be staged in May in MainLine Theatre’s MiniMain space, seating no more than forty-four audience members a performance.

While still in the throes of young love, a couple pledge to return to the site of their first meeting ever year in order to re-enact word-for-word their faithful encounter. An unapologetically tender text that sends us straight to the heart of great love: from fluttering hearts, to subtle betrayals, to the uncertainty of sudden loneliness. Encore blends comedy, poetry and insight in a manner that is a far cry from the cynicism of our time. It dares to speak of true feelings, the ones that shake us to our core.

“In a fast-paced world filled with unspeakable turmoil, Encore reminds us of the importance of cherishing the people we love the most,” explains Liz Valdez, director of the project, and the artist leading the bilingual adaptation of combining Prescott’s French and English texts. “Who amongst us has not been swept up by the whirlwind that is new love, or longed to remember the freshness and passion that naturally shifts with time? Love is more than emotion, it is action. The universal themes brought forward by the playwright resonate in all languages, and this show will serve as a stepping-stone for dialogue on our common humanity.”

Encore features the talents of performers Matthew Kabwe (Much ado about nothing, Repercussion Theatre 2017) and Tania Kontoyanni (Coriolan, Théâtre du nouveau monde 2018) who will be accompanied on stage by violinist Jacob Burtenshaw. The design team is composed of Montreal English Theatre Award (META) winning designer Zoe Roux (Outstanding Emerging Artist, 2018) on costumes and lighting, and META nominated designer Frederic St-Hilaire on projections (Outstanding Contribution to the Theatre, 2017). Jaclyn Turner (Blackout, Tableau D’Hôte Theatre 2019) and Rehan Lalani (Birthmark, Teesri Duniya 2018) complete the design team respectively on set and sound.
