Montréal, August 21st, 2018. TOHU is 15 years old and its team is proud to unveil details of its anniversary season. For the first time, an exclusively local circus programming is on the program! Here’s an opportunity to see the continuous evolution of the Québec circus, with high-level performances, limitless creativity, grandiose staging and loads of thrills.
One can thus enjoy seven productions by local companies: MACHINE DE CIRQUE with its creation that bears the same name, PASSAGERS by LES 7 DOIGTS, LE SONGE D’UNE NUIT D’ÉTÉ by THÉÂTRE LE TRIDENT and FLIPFABRIQUE, the 4th edition of TOHU’S COUPS DE CŒUR, the TOURNOI DE L’IMPRO CIRQUE by LES IMPRODUITS, the NATIONAL CIRCUS SCHOOL show as well as LE BIBLIOTHÉCAIRE by LE GROS ORTEIL. This series of great moments will gather together an exceptionally vast audience throughout this 15th season.
Two co-distributions will also be presented: HOTEL by CIRQUE ÉLOIZE at Place des Arts and L’HOMME DE HUS by L’IMMÉDIAT (France) at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines. As always, exclusive programming awaits children and their families, with creations by CAS PUBLIC and DYNAMO THÉÂTRE, the CROQUE-SPECTACLE series, the PETITS BONHEURS festival, MARCH BREAK, etc. Furthermore, seven art exhibitions will be displayed throughout the season and an array of unifying activities will be back, such as LA GRANDE CORVÉE, SPRING BUZZ and GRAIN DE CIEL. And let’s not forget the 10th year of the craziest summer event in town: MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE. Finally, there is the ongoing collaboration of TOHU and the splendid PARC FRÉDÉRIC-BACK, inaugurated by the City of Montréal last year, which will be the scene of activities for all ages.
Fifteen years ago, TOHU was created. Since then, the venue fostering unexpected encounters and new experiences has been experiencing the extraordinary on a daily basis!
“This 15th season brings TOHU’s whole essence into range: a corporate citizen that wants to make a differencethrough involvement. And an anniversary is the opportunity to reflect on the progress. I commend the boldness of the founders who believed in their vision and worked at making it a reality without any guidelinesor comparable. They dared to dream big and differently. It’s also an opportunity to project ourselves into thefuture and continue to meet challenges. TOHU presents for the first time a 100% local circus programming, and that’s indicative of the evolution of the circus and its artists, who continually push boundaries. Let uscelebrate the Circus, the Earth, the Human Being. Let us enjoy the 15th year of TOHU!” – STÉPHANE LAVOIE, general and programming director
