The Segal Centre presents a Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre (DWYT) Production
A Bintel Brief
Written by Abraham Shulman Directed by Michelle Heisler
October 14th – October 21st, 2018, in the Segal Studio
A Bintel Brief (“A Bundle of Letters”) is an all-time DWYT favourite, based on letters to the editor of the Forverts newspaper from Jewish immigrants to North America in the 20th century. Told through comedy, drama and song it presents the true life stories of strangers in a new land and serves as a poignant reminder that the immigrant experience is universal and timeless.
We are looking for dedicated actors/singers to be part of this special Yiddish production. (It is an entirely Yiddish language show, but you do not need to know Yiddish to be in it! Language coaches will be on call to work one-on-one with actors.)
Auditions are slated to take place on Sunday, July 8th.
Call backs will be in the late afternoon of Monday, July 9th and/or Tuesday, July 10th.
Please prepare a 1 to 2 minute monologue in Yiddish or in English. Please prepare approximately 16 bars of a song of your choice.
Rehearsals will begin by the end of July, and take place during the day on Sundays, with one or two added evenings (Tuesdays and Thursdays) until tech week October 8th, which will require nightly attendance.
There will be approximately 11 weeks of rehearsal.
(Rehearsal days will work around the Jewish holidays as needed over September.)
Participating in this show requires a full commitment to the rehearsal schedule!

Please note that while we appreciate everyone’s interest, we won’t be able to include everyone in this production, and auditions will take place on the above mentioned dates. But as with all DWYT productions, our goal is to bridge generations—whether you are a veteran DWYT actor or new to the experience, we would love to hear from you!
If you would like to participate, please be in touch with the Segal Centre’s Jewish Programs Manager, Sivan Slapak at firstname.lastname@example.org, or at 514-655-7039.
