From raunchy sex, to defining their vaginas, to challenging their modesty, two women explore what it means to be sexually free in a hilarious new light in Overy Productions’ “Messy Blueprints to Sexual Freedom” presented at the 2018 St. Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival.

No pretense, a little nonsense and lots of laughs. These women are confused, candid and frankly… horny. In a montage about sexuality, two young women hilariously and honestly navigate what it means to be sexually free. In this new text by Oprah Lemorin and Avery Reid, follow the heartache, the stubbornness, the confusion and the celebration that comes with trying to find sexual freedom.

Overy Productions is a new theatre performance company focused on telling feminist stories through innovative creation techniques with a focus on connection and reflection. Their goal is to create theatre that brings communities together by destigmatizing the themes present in their work. This is their inaugural production.

The co-founders of the company are Avery Reid (Fenster Fenêtre,Bard College Berlin, 2015) and Oprah Lemorin (A Room of Wolves, Ottawa Fringe, 2016). They are both current students at Concordia University in the BFA: Acting program. Avery and Oprah write, perform and direct this piece.

The script was workshopped with Playwrights Workshop Montreal’s Young Creator Unit and the production was sculpted through the feedback of local Montreal artists. This intimate and fun performance was created by a team of strong people including designer Holly Hilts, (Docile Bodies, Wig in a Box Productions, 2017 and History of Sexuality, Talking Dog Productions, 2017) and stage manager Jennifer Nguyen (creator with Mammalian Diving Reflex, 2014) and Music Producer Malcolm McLaren (POOLBOY).

Created through reflecting on personal stories and experiences of sexuality, this piece brings a personal lens on what has become a political subject. By expressing their difficulties in a positive light, this duo creates a sense of belonging, community and connection. All while making you laugh till it hurts.
