Following sold out performances at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines in March 2017, dance artist Helen Simard rings in 2018 with her outrageous, critically acclaimed production IDIOT at Centaur Theatre’s 21st Annual Wildside Festival!
The two hottest weeks in winter are about to get a little hotter with this 60-minute performance that festival curator Johanna Nutter has deemed “the wildest show in the Wildside”. Combining high velocity dance moves with rock’n’roll rhythms and an absurd bilingual text, Simard has created a surreal, dream-like universe inspired by the legendary American musician Iggy Pop. IDIOT is a raw yet beautiful interdisciplinary experience that will keep spectators on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
“IDIOT is a portrait of decadence and despair, a journey through madness. It’s a piece about intuition and trust; an exploration of the state of feeling overwhelmed and lost. It’s about the vunerability, the fear, the anxiety and the elation that’s all part of being at a time in your life when everything is uncertain. It’s about realizing that everything doesn’t always go as planned; that it’s okay if you don’t know what you’re doing, or even why you’re doing it. IDIOT is a space where confusion and chaos aren’t things to be afraid of.” – Helen Simard, Choreographer
“It’s raw, it’s direct, it’s brutal, and it’s beautiful. Helen Simard manages both to move us and make us laugh with IDIOT. It makes you want to fall back into Pop’s discography, and to reinvent the world in your own fashion”.
