Confabulation opens 8th season with “5+1: Stories Told by the Senses” September 9th

Montreal’s true-life storytelling series launches new season and podcast at Phi Centre

MONTREAL, August 30, 2017 — Confabulation, Montreal’s original, monthly, all-true storytelling show, is thrilled to announce their season premiere and podcast relaunch party – all part of a special event hosted by Phi Centre. This show will be presented as part of Lucid Realities, the third instalment of the Sensory Stories series immersive exhibition, curated by Phi and Future of StoryTelling (FoST).

On September 9, 2017 from 8-10 p.m., Confabulation presents 5+1: Stories Told by the Senses. Six storytellers will tell ten minute true stories of their lives, inspired by sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste, and the enigmatic sixth sense. The event will celebrate the launch of Confabulation’s podcast, complement Phi Centre’s Lucid Realities exhibit, and begin the eighth season of Confabulation’s live show in Montreal.

Confabulation is a national storytelling series presented in Montreal, Toronto, and Victoria. Executive Director Matt Goldberg and producers based in the three cities host monthly storytelling shows that feature personal, true, and poignant stories told by the people who lived them. Stories come from both amateurs and professionals, artists and laypeople, anyone and everyone with a story to share. The night is curated, with stories chosen and workshopped to highlight a range of experiences. This month’s event features stories from veteran storyteller Taylor Tower, Giller Prize winning author Sean Michaels and more. The night kicks off what will be a year of change and growth for the local storytelling show.

After a two year hiatus, the return of Confabulation’s popular podcast is also something worth celebrating. The new format for the show will reflect the changes that the organization itself has undergone, expanding to present works from all three cities. The podcast will also delve more deeply into the stories, sometimes illuminating the historical context, deepening the connection to characters, or exploring the stories’ themes. “Being live in three cities is incredible,” explains Matt Goldberg, “but our audience can’t be in three places at once. The podcast reflects and builds on the experience of being at one of our live shows in the hopes of bringing it to anyone and everyone.” The podcast will be released weekly, starting September 13th, and is available for free on the website, or through all of the major podcasting platforms, including iTunes and Google podcasts, as part of the No More Radio network.
