Segal Centre opens registration for 2017-2018 Academy for Young Artists

Montreal's flagship English theatre company provides programs for artists ages 8-17

Montreal, August 8, 2017 Registration is now open for the Segal Centre Academy’s 2017-2018 courses. As students head back to school, the Academy is proud to offer unique after-school programming for aspiring young artists ages 8-17 years old.

Whether your children have an interest in the arts or they simply enjoy participating in a fun and welcoming environment, the Segal Academy is your perfect extracurricular destination. Located at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, the Academy offers a range of performing arts courses and workshops specializing in musical theatre, music, drama, and dance taught by an exceptional group of arts educators.

Courses run from October 2017 to May 2018 and culminate in a year-end musical presentation. Register now! Spaces fill up fast.

Broadway Stars (Grades 2-8)

PRICING: $450/session (2 sessions – students must attend both sessions) + $50 one time costume fee

This program offers training in classic and contemporary Broadway musical theatre and culminates with an end of year show. Previous shows include: Aladdin Jr., Cinderella, Annie, and Peter Pan.

Our mission is to provide the highest calibre of performing arts education to students and to foster individual growth in a caring, supportive artistic environment.

YAYA (Grades 2-7)

Wednesdays 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Starting October 18, 2017

PRICING: $330/session (2 sessions) + $50 one time costume fee

The YAYA course provides musical theatre training through theatre-based exercises and games from the perspective of Jewish heritage and Yiddish culture. The first session focuses on storytelling, building trust within the ensemble, tactic and objective work, and character development. The students are introduced to the Yiddish language through song. The second session will focus on the production as they work through the script, putting all the elements of the show together. Based on core Jewish values and inspired by the vision of Dora and Bryna Wasserman, the award-winning Young Actors for Young Audiences (YAYA) program forms the cornerstone of youth arts education at the Segal Centre.

Past YAYA productions include Something from Nothing, Bagels from Benny and the award-winning No More Raisins, No More Almonds.

Broadway and Beyond (Grades 7-11)

Thursdays 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and Sundays 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Starting January 11, 2018

PRICING: $950/session (1 session), $50 one time costume fee, plus tax for students 14+

A chance to step outside the classroom and to be a part of a professional theatre experience led by two exceptionally talented instructors. This course is designed for teens who want to expand their love of theatre. Broadway and Beyond is where the serious young actor comes to take their game to the highest level and learn what it takes to put on a professional quality production. (Auditions required: Monday, September 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)

In addition to its regular after-school programming, the Segal Centre Academy also offers a variety of camps. There will be two ped-day camps on Friday, November 24, 2017 and Monday, December 11, 2017, and the popular Spring Break, Passover, and summer camps will also be returning.
