Montreal, November 11, 2016 – Due to popular demand, the Segal Centre for Performing Arts is thrilled to announce that three performances have been added to the world premiere production of Prom Queen: The Musical. Produced by Mary Young Leckie and the Segal Centre, Prom Queen: The Musical tells the inspiring, true story of Marc Hall, the Ontario teenager who took his Catholic School Board to court when they refused to let him attend prom with his boyfriend. This new, award-winning Canadian musical directed by Marcia Kash, written by Kent Staines, with lyrics by Akiva Romer-Segal and music by Colleen Dauncey, will now run on the Segal Stage until November 23, 2016.

This breakout hit musical recounts an important part of Canadian, human rights, and LGBT history. Above all, Prom Queen: The Musical is the story of a community coming together to support one of their own and the importance of fighting for your rights. It is a true celebration of individuality and diversity that has been inspiring and entertaining audiences of all ages.

Hall’s court battle is brought back to life on the stage, now with catchy contemporary pop songs and jaw-dropping choreography by celebrity So You Think You Can Dance Judge and Choreographer Sean Cheesman.

“Prom Queen: The Musical is everything we could have asked for in a new musical, and we’re so proud that audiences are as excited as we are. Marc’s story remains universally relevant, and it’s a proud moment to leave our mark on Canadian theatre history with his story. We’re leaving audiences on their feet each night, and seeing them bring back their friends and family the next day. Thank you, Montreal, for loving Prom Queen: The Musical!” says Segal Centre Artistic and Executive Director Lisa Rubin.

The production stars an all-Canadian cast of 18 stars on the rise and veterans of the stage led by Alessandro Costantini (Marc Hall), Jonathan Cullen (Jason Powers), Katee Julien (Emily Hall), Sylvain Scott (Audy Hall), Sydney Scotia (Carly), Kolton Stewart (Boomer), David Silvestri (Lonnie Wynn/Dale), with Zach Counsil, Stuart Dowling, Gabi Epstein, Alexia Gourd, Hailey Lewis, Jamie Mayers, Lucas Meeuse, Mike Melino, Patrick Park, Stephanie Sy, and Jonathan Whittaker in various ensemble roles, accompanied by a live band on stage under the musical direction of Mark Camilleri and Nick Burgess (Associate Musical Director).
