With the upcoming auditions for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS on October 28/29th – among many other productions on the horizon – The Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society is proud to encourage the advancement of your general audition technique by playing host to this musical theatre audition workshop presented by Sheena Bernett & accompanied by the Musical Director, Douglas Price.
Musical Theatre Audition Workshop – Acting Through Song
An intensive introduction to the fundamental musical theatre styles and practices, used in developing a students’ performance and interpretation skills in musical theatre song. This workshop has a lecture element but is mostly interactive. Through exercises and discussion, students will explore tools they can use to prepare for performances and auditions. Each student will have a chance to workshop a song of their choice with a pianist.

– Audition Etiquette
– Character Analysis & Research
– Song Cuts and Marking your Music
– Creating your Audition Book
(Musical Theatre Styles and Song Choice)
Each student is invited to prepare one song for the workshop. The song must be from a musical and the student should be familiar with the chosen musical. They should bring three copies of their sheet music in their key. If possible, they are further requested to bring a synopsis of said musical or the libretto if they have access to it.

SHEENA BERNETT is a Singer, Dancer, Actor, Songwriter, Composer, Choreographer and Performing and Creative Arts Educator from Montreal. She holds an MA in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a B.F.A. in Music Composition and Classical Voice from Concordia University where she graduated with distinction. She is also a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York in Musical Theatre and studied classical voice at Vanier College. Read the Hub’s recent interview with Sheena here.
DOUGLAS PRICE began Music Directing in high school on his own show titled “Socks: The Musical”. He completed his Masters from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and is currently the head Music Director/Teacher at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal. Music Directing Credits include: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Blue Champagne (Stephenville), Guys and Dolls, Light in the Piazza (Shaw, intern MD), Sunday in the Park with George, Legally Blonde, The Girl Who (RCS), Last 5 Years (Daemon Theatre).
The Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society is a community theatre initiative that began in the summer of 2011 in partnership with the City of Côte Saint-Luc. The goal is to bring together actors, writers, musicians and other artistically minded community members to produce theatrical works in an inclusive environment where emphasis is placed on team work and comradery, not celebrity.
