Call For Submissions: Infinithéâtre’s WRITE-ON Q! playwright competition

Script Writing Competition Open Until September 6th, 2016

Call For Submissions
Write-On Q!

Once again, Infinithéâtre has organized its Quebec playwright Competition. We get a lot of promising plays from a lot of talented playwrights, and our jury selects 3 outstanding works. Plays developed by Infinithéâtre have been performed in and around Montreal, Stratford Ontario, New York, Tokyo, Cairo, Toronto and in Ottawa at the NAC!

Every year Infinithéâtre looks for innovative, challenging and exciting new works by Québec playwrights.  A jury of professionals chooses the winner of the Pam Dunn Prize ($3,000) from plays submitted before the September 6th deadline.

The winning script, as well as two or three additional plays, comprise the line-up of the annual reading series, The Pipeline, an animated weekend of free public play readings (currently scheduled for December 1st-3rd 2016). Infinithéâtre takes its cue from the audience at talkbacks following each event, an open forum with the playwrights and actors that provides valuable feedback for future programming and script rewrites.

Write-On-Q! is open to only Québec playwrights–Playwrights born and/or bred in Québec, or, if you have been living here for a while and consider yourself a Québecker. We have realized (many would say, “about time!”) that the line on the map that shapes Québec should not apply to First Nations writers. Therefore, starting in September of 2016, all First Nations writers whose unceded territory falls within the outline of Canada are eligible to submit plays to Infinithéâtre’s WOQ!  competition

  • Plays must be unproduced. That is, they should not have had a professional production. Plays that have only been workshopped and/or had public readings are eligible as are plays that have been produced in only one Fringe Festival to date. (We consider that a kind of work-shopping of the script.)
  • Plays must be in English or bi- or multi-lingual. If multi-lingual, English should be a significant part of the language quotient (We recognize “significant” is a subjective criterion and, should there be any doubt, we reserve the right to make our own judgment call on the matter.)
