Kiss of the Spider Woman
December 16, 2017 @ 2:00 pm
The National Theatre School presents
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Written by Manuel Puig
Directed by Harrison Thomas and presented by the Graduating Class of 2018 in Directing, Production Design & Technical Arts, and Set & Costume Design
Valentin and Molina find themselves as unlikely cellmates in an Argentinian Prison. While freedom eludes them in life, they gain it through Molina’s love of film, his memory a projector against the dark. As they wait for time to pass, they draw closer, ultimately coming to see themselves and each other in new ways.
First published as a novel in 1976, Puig’s work subtly balances the complicated nature of sacrificial love and our desperate need for escape from its implications. Part cinema of memory, part political drama and part queer love story, it asks what escape is worth, and where we seek it.
