De la glorieuse fragilité
November 28 @ 8:00 pm
By revealing the fragility of the body, Karine Ledoyen serves as a witness to what was and what will be.
The life stories of dancers make for a work that echoes grief both big and small, including mourning the loss of a passion. Immersed in confidential secrets delivered piecemeal, the audience discovers what leads an artist to stop performing, to come to terms with dreams, memories and reality.
Advancing age? Injury? The arrival of a child? What was the tipping point? To achieve a sensitive, accurate portrayal, research included testimonials from several generations of dancers who experienced loss or grief – what they had accomplished through dance, and sometimes what they had hoped to achieve through dance but did not. Blending fiction and reality onstage, the choreographer wants the spectator to feel that vibrant corollary between the powerful attraction of a beautiful art form and the ultimate difficulty in letting go of it, to accept and mourn its passing.
