Designer and director for Minutes Complètement Cirque and the large-scale production at Jardins Gamelin since 2010, Anthony Venisse invites festivalgoers to gather around a large circus ring just like a big top and let themselves be captivated by the story of the never-ending cycle of life, told in acrobatics, Cyr wheel, dance, juggling and aerial feats! On a bare 360-degree stage, dozens of acrobats execute movements and lifts in a series of scenes ruled by the body.
Central pillar of the exterior creations of Montréal Cirque Festival, Anthony Venisse is constantly renewing andpushing the limits of creativity in each of his work. It breathes a lot of the magic that characterizes the Festival’s outdoor programming. Phénix is his 8th creation.

“Partners since its very first year, it’s an honour for Radio-Canada to be associated with this Festival for the past 9 years. This combination of contemporary circus arts particularly draws our attention as it puts all arts to contribution to oversee the feats of extraordinary athletes. Seducing young and old alike, without any language barrier, it’s the most unifying entertainment ever.”Catherine Boivin, director, Communications citoyennes et partenariats at Radio-Canada.
SAINT-DENIS STREET ★ AGES 12 AND +
Strong and agile or simply curious, the public will have lots of fun with the help of professional trainers in the Aerial Fitness and Yoga area! In collaboration with MAA Club Sportif, participants will discover the unparallelled efficiency of Aerial Fitness, the aerial circus-inspired training method which works against gravity. Also, with the help of the Yoga Volant team, aerial circus meets yoga and results in continuous posture sequences requiring strength and flexibility. Some sports experience is preferable here.
TERRASSE COMPLÈTEMENT CIRQUE BRASSEUR DE MONTRÉAL
SAINT-DENIS STREET ★ JULY 5 TO 15
For a short moment or a whole show, the Terrasse Complètement Cirque Brasseur de Montréal will host festivalgoers, who can let themselves be dazzled by the Place aux Performances artists! Circus and beer… a perfect combination!
QUARTIERS COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE
The Festival tours the neighborhoods for an evening or a whole weekend with Machine de Cirque and La Compagnie Ici’Bas performances, as well as many participatory activities. Pointe-à-Callière, TOHU, the Olympic Park and the Sommet des arts et de la musique de Longueuil will all be part of the fun!
Quartiers Complètement Cirque proposes two delicious versions this year: BBQ or PICNIC! Citizens are invited to bring their food for an outdoor meal in a circus environment! Inspired by popular Australian circus barbecues, the Festival team brings together artists to spend a friendly, spontaneous and acrobatic evening partying with participants. Between two bites, people can enjoy participatory activities, the unmissable Truckstop: La Grande Traversée by Machine de Cirque, the show L’Envers as well surprise performances by the National Circus School students.
From Nova Scotia to British Columbia, Machine de Cirque embarks on a cross-Canada journey with its spectacular circus caravan. Aboard a trailer which unfolds into multiple acrobatic stages created especially for this grand road trip, five performers and a musician describe the scenery along their itinerary. Buoys Juggling for the Maritimes, Chinese poles for the lush forests, aerial disciplines rocked by the wind of the vast Prairies, a trampo-wall against the Rockies… the showcreated in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Confederation is the promise of an incredible journey.
Engineer by training and experienced artist, Vincent Dubé dreamed of combining his two passions: apparatus and circus. He went ahead in 2013 by creating Machine de Cirque. The first self-titled show of the company, performed at the 2015 Festival, was a testimony to the successful combination of technology and circus techniques.
A stage made of a grass mat, a gas bottle and speakers: this duo doesn’t need any trickery for their natural charm toexpress itself. Between danced movements and Icarian games, a man and a woman—an acrobat and a dancer—inhabit their playground, combat zone at times, with energetic races, childlike silliness and creative urges. With disarming simplicity, the Québec-Swiss couple brings festivalgoers into a suspended space, a small refreshing and serene bubble which will stay with them for a long time.
Compagnie Ici’Bas is a charismatic duo that brings together Christine Daigle and Mathias Reymond. They decide in 2015 to join forces to create multidisciplinary acts combining circus, dance and performance.
LE MOULIN À VENT
Spinning around the Pas de géant pole, flying away on the Russian swing or winning a Hula-Hoop contest standing on the shoulders of a ringmaster, the audience is an instant star! In a festive atmosphere, Le Moulin à Vent sets up its structures at the park giving people of all ages a chance to be masters of their own lives. Through the circus, but also the discovery of world games, some of them a thousand years old, the Le Moulin à Vent team brings together cultures and generations. It’s a perfect reflection of the rich diversity of Montréal neighborhoods.
