From June 1st – 17th at the Freestanding Room, Twisted Tree Studio presents the World Premiere of “Rootless Tree” at the 2018 St-Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival.
Forced to share a home since discovering that they share a husband, Norma and June spend each day waiting for his return, as if performing a daily sacrifice on a loop. One day, a mysterious stranger arrives in the middle of the night with unexpected news that uproots their sacrament.
Written by American playwright and screenwriter JohnPeter Livingston, Rootless Tree is a dark comedy exploring the underlying tensions, fears and desires of two women tied to a man who remains a mystery, a ghost even to them: a balancing act between Norma and June’s very real desires and the delusion that this perceived husband will somehow fulfill these dreams. A journey in which communication, memory, self-identity eventually break down, collapsing in on themselves.
The production is directed by Isabel Farias Lehoux, professional actor, acting coach and director for film and theatre. After having done extensive work in theatre and film acting in Brazil, Isabel moved to Montreal and co-founded Straeon Studios.
Rebecca Rowley (JUNE) is an actor, writer and jazz singer. Originally from France, Rebecca trained as an actor in the US and Canada, and mainly pursues a career in film & theatre.
Julia Thomas (FRAN) is an actor and artist based in Montreal. Originally from Toronto, Julia studied contemporary dance at Concordia University and trained in acting with Straeon Studios.
Jen Viens (NORMA) is an actor, director and producer originally from BC. She studied theatre at UBC and trained at the Actor’s Foundry in Vancouver. Jen currently works in Montreal & Toronto.
