Clio lives in a world where she feels invisible and alienated. No-one ever told her who she really is or what she is capable of. CLIO. A journey of self-discovery and a purging of guilt and shame. Demystifying female pleasure. Becoming cliterate. A giant clitoris puppet learning to love herself.
PUPPETS NOT PATRIARCHY founders Julia Munčs and Hannah Pearson met in their first year of training at Studio 58 in Vancouver.
Julia is a queer identified theatre artist from Montreal. She loves baking, long chats about LGBTQ+ rights and masturbating. Past Fringe credits include Bar Kapra the Squirrel Hunter by Scapegoat Carnival and Mutement by We Say So Ltd.
Hannah grew up on an artsy fartsy rock called Saltspring Island – the largest of the BC’s Southern Gulf Islands. She is ec-static to spend part of her summer in MTL working on her French by day and manipulating a giant clitoris puppet by night. Pas si pire, hein?
These two unstoppable women bonded over their shared passions for female empowerment, sex positivity and puppetry. It is from these loves that CLIO was born.
In the creation of this show we asked ourselves some questions: Why do I understand male pleasure better than female pleasure? Why do young people feel shame around touching themselves? Why do some women find it difficult to reach orgasm? Why doesn’t anyone talk about female masturbation?
We are OVER the lack of education around female pleasure. The clitoris is not the “little hill” its Greek etymology claims it to be. This “little hill” is just the tip of the iceberg. Its sole purpose is pleasure and it is essential to the female orgasm. We want you to know the truth about this beautiful and powerful organ.
