Imago presents ‘ATELIER’ – professional development workshops for emerging and established artists (June 2-10)


Imago Theatre presents ‘ATELIER’, a series of professional development workshops for emerging and established artists to develop their craft.

The workshops, led by award-winning professionals in their field, are an initiative Imago puts forward to fundraise for ARTISTA, a free youth mentorship program for women.

Day-long workshops are $75 for which you will be issued a $50 tax receipt for your workshop fee.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

The Art of Direction*
Led by Micheline Chevrier, Artistic Director of Imago Theatre
June 2&3 10am-5pm

In this 3-day active learning masterclass, participants will investigate questions such as, “how do I research, prepare for design meetings, investigate the text, prepare for the first day of rehearsals, transition from table work to embodied work, time my notes, and ultimately direct a unified production?”

*Note: The Art of Direction Master Class with Micheline Chevrier is an intensive 3-day workshop for $200 with a $150 tax receipt.

Introduction to Mask
Led by Anana Rydvald, Actress, Mask Artist, and Teacher
June 2nd, 10am-5pm
Location: Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal, 7250 Clark St. Suite 103

Participants will have the opportunity to move and improvise within neutral masks, full-faced archetype masks, and half-face masks. Guided improvisations will centralize the body as a tool for character building and storytelling.

Introduction to Butoh
Led by Kyungseo Min, Performer, Emerging Playwright
June 3rd, 10am-5pm

This Japanese dance theatre form focuses on breaking down habits and inhibitions within the body to re-establish the connection between the brain and body. The workshop uses image work to prepare the body for rich and alive performances.

Introduction to Pochinko Clown
Led by Jed Tomlinson, Clown, Director, and Educator

This workshop is an opportunity for participants to delve into their own personal ridiculousness through imagination and specific movement exercises that focus on our impulsive selves.

Introduction to Stage Combat
Led by Anita Nittoly, Fight Director and Stage Combat Instructor with Associate Instructor, David Chinchilla
June 9.10am-5pm
Location: 5333 Casgrain Ave, Montreal

Participants will be exposed to a number of physical stage combat techniques which are embedded with safeties to allow for optimal illusions of violence at heightened speeds.

The Art of Auditioning
Led by Eda Holmes, Artistic Director of The Centaur Theatre
June 10th, 10am–5pm
Location: Youtheatre Studio, 5333 Casgrain Ave, Montreal

This workshop offers actors the opportunity to hone their audition technique by understanding how to select appropriate and compelling audition texts, while providing insight on how to stage audition pieces and quickly integrate feedback from a director.
