Director’s Gym: Building Vocabulary
March 20, 21, and 22, 2018
Through exploration, discussion and feedback, participants will engage in their own process, skill building and creative instincts while examining the role of director in today’s theatre-making. This workshop is geared towards emerging directors and is designed to challenge and enrich the creative process and communication between director and actor.
The facilitator, Liz Valdez, will instruct participants in approaches to use in conventional structures versus collaborative creations and non-hierarchical decision-making.
The workshop will be held at Black Theatre Workshop (3680 Jeanne Mance St, Montreal).
March 20-22, 10am-4pm.
Length: 6 hours per day, over 3 days.
Maximum participants: 8
Participants will receive more details and instructions on what to prepare closer to the date.

Liz Valdez, Co-owner of Shift Space and part-time faculty at Concordia University Theatre Department has been directing, teaching and coaching for 18 years. Many of her students have gone on to enjoy successful careers in Film, Television, Theatre and post-graduate studies. Most recent directing credits are Black Theatre Workshop’s Gas Girls alongside, Artistic Director, Quincy Armorer, Teesri Duniya’s Bhopal by Rahul Varma and Corpus by Darrah Teitel. In January 2016, she directed Playshed’s inaugural production of Cock by Mike Bartlett. Liz won a MECCA for her direction in Tableau D’Hote’s Production of Humans by Daniel MacIvor.
