Audition Notice: Lakeshore Light Opera presents “The Mikado”

Audition dates: September 15 (Principals) & 19 (Chorus)


META nominated community theatre group Lakeshore Light Opera will soon be holding open auditions for its 2018 Spring production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado”.

  • Auditions for principals: Friday, September 15 from 6:00 PM
  • Phone notification for candidates required for a callback: Sunday, September 17
  • Auditions for chorus and principal callback auditions: Tuesday, September 19
  • Notification of audition results to candidates by phone: Wednesday, September 20

AUDITION LOCATION:
Church of St. John the Baptist (233 Sainte-Claire Ave., Pointe-Claire)

PRINCIPAL ROLES:
THE MIKADO OF JAPAN – bass or bass/baritone
NANKI-POO (his Son, disguised as a wandering minstrel) – tenor
KO-KO (Lord High Executioner of Titipu) – baritone
POOH-BAH (Lord High Everything Else) – baritone
PISH-TUSH (a Noble Lord) – baritone
GO-TO (a Noble Lord) – bass
YUM-YUM (ward of Ko-Ko) – soprano
PITTI-SING (ward of Ko-Ko) – mezzo-soprano
PEEP-BO (ward of Ko-Ko) – soprano or mezzo-soprano
KATISHA (an elderly Lady, in love with NANKI-POO) – contralto

COMPANY CHORUS:
There are openings in each standard vocal range.

AUDITIONS FOR PRINCIPAL ROLES:
Friday September 15, 2017 from 6:00 PM

  • Candidates are asked to request an appointment by calling (514) 804-4900 or by emailing auditions@llo.org
  • Candidates will be asked to log their arrival on a registry in our green-room and to complete an application form. The submission of a CV and headshot is optional.
  • Candidates can present any number of roles they wish but may be asked to be considered for other roles.
  • Candidates are requested to sing the “solo” piece(s) for each of their desired role(s).
  • Candidates will be asked to read from the selected dialogue piece(s).
  • Memorization is not a requirement.
  • An accompanist will be provided.
  • Candidates may be recorded during the audition. This footage will be destroyed once the audition process is completed.
  • Candidates will be notified (no later than September 17) if they are requested to attend the callback auditions, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19.
AUDITIONS FOR CHORUS AND CALLBACK AUDITIONS:
Tuesday September 19, 2017 from 6:00 PM
Auditions for chorus from 6:00 PM
  • Candidates for chorus positions are asked to request an appointment by calling (514) 804-4900 or by emailing auditions@llo.org
  • Candidates will be asked to log their arrival on a registry in our green-room and to complete an application form. The submission of a CV and headshot is optional.
  • Candidates are requested to sing a solo of their choosing in any style best suited for their vocal range.
  • Memorization is not a requirement.
  • An accompanist will be provided (please provide a copy of your sheet music).
  • Scales and exercises may be requested to determine range and ability.
Callback auditions from 6:30 PM
  • Candidates for the callback auditions will be given an appointment at the discretion of the Casting Committee.
  • Candidates will be asked to perform selected “ensemble” pieces with other candidates.
  • Candidates may be requested to repeat solos or dialogue from the previous audition.
