About the role
Under the direct supervision of Director, Theatre Section, manages programs of assistance for individual artists, arts groups, and/or arts organizations, according to established policies and procedures.

The incumbent may be required to travels up to 30 days per year and work irregular hours.

As the Program Officer, Theatre Section you will:

  • chair assessment committee meetings
  • contribute to the development of Council policies
  • provide information services and support to the artistic community
  • work to ensure access for professional Canadian artists and arts organizations to Council programs and services
  • anticipate and respond to the development needs of the arts practice; and performs other related duties.

The incumbent may be required to travels up to 30 days per year and work irregular hours.


Basic requirements of the position

Education
• An undergraduate degree in contemporary arts practices or arts administration, or equivalent professional practice in the arts

Experience
• Five (5) years of experience in the discipline directly related to the principal responsibilities of the position
• Previous work experience in arts administration would be an asset
• Experience in artistic disciplines other than theatre would be an asset

Knowledge
• An understanding of the interrelationships and complexities of the artistic milieu, including the organizations and institutions in the discipline
• Knowledge of the history and current status of the arts and most notably in the field contemporary Canadian English and French theatre
• General knowledge of the diversity of cultural practices in Canada, including non-Western forms and Aboriginal arts practices

Skills & Competencies
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, team working, problem-solving, analytical, time and priority management, organizational and leadership skills
• Ability to adapt and take on responsibilities related to new services and non-disciplinary programs, and ability to contribute to change
• Ability to synthesize information, write reports, analyze budgets and understand financial statements
• Ability to facilitate consensus and resolve conflicts
• Ability to chair and manage committees

Bilingual Requirements
• This position requires the use of both official languages. The requirements in the second official language are: an intermediate level in oral, reading comprehension and writing.

This position is located in Ottawa.
A written exam may be required.
